Transfusion

Laurens hemoglobin levels have dipped in to the 5's and her pulse is under 50 beats per minute. The only symptoms that she is having is that she is tired and a little short of breath. The docs are no longer recommending a transfusion - it is now part of the treatment plan. They have to draw blood, type it, then begin the transfusion. The transfusion itself should start around Noon and the blood will be given to Lauren just like any other IV fluids are given. It takes a couple of hours per unit and they are going to give her two units.

The results of the blood culture test have begun to come back. They try to grow things in her blood for 5 days and so far the first days test was negative. Still no fever so thats good, although they warn us that she may develop a small fever as a result of the transfusion (because of the increase in white blood cells).

Goal 1 is for her to feel much better after the transfusion. Goal 2 is that a fever doesn't develop. Goal 3 is that the tests in the morning show everything is in order and she can be discharged. Heres hoping!

I love you guys! You're always in our thoughts and prayers. Lauren will feel much better after the transfusion. You guys will be back in the comfort of your own home before you know it!

I had a ruptured ectopic some years ago and had to have a transfusion (3 in the OR and 1 more unit in the room the next day). I just wanted you both to know that it will make a HUGE difference in how she feels. Her fatigue and overall feeling of being "off" will all go away. It will surprise you how much it can help!
I've been reading for a week or so and my heart breaks for you both. I will continue to send prayers and I hope you find peace and good health in the coming days!

Reading along and keeping you both in my prayers. I, too, had transfusions following my complications post c/s - each time I did run a fever but did feel much better after. Hoping this makes the difference. Many prayers for you all today and in the days to come
